Ramadan budget planner: plan iftar, Eid, and giving before the month starts

Money moves differently in Ramadan: bigger grocery runs, iftar gatherings, charity, Eid clothes and gifts, and often travel straight after. A simple plan made before the first day keeps the month generous without a shortfall at the end.

Make a list before Ramadan starts

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around mid-February 2027, with the exact date set by the moon sighting. Sit down a couple of weeks before and list what the month will cost.

    • Iftar and suhoor groceries
    • Iftars out, and gatherings you host
    • Charity: zakat and sadaqah
    • Eid clothes for the family
    • Eidiya and gifts
    • Eid travel or a staycation
    • Guests at home: dates, sweets, and giveaways

Put a number on each line

Give each line an amount you can afford after your fixed costs. Groceries work best as a weekly amount; Eid clothes, eidiya, and travel are one-off totals you can set aside from the salary that lands before Ramadan.

Ramadan usually spans two salary months. Split the plan across both so the last days of the month and Eid aren't left short.

How to make a monthly budget around salary day

Track Ramadan in its own categories

In Malii, create a Ramadan category, or a few (Iftar, Eid, Charity, Eid travel). Categories are unlimited on the free plan. Log grocery runs and iftars as they happen with Apple Pay Shortcuts, Siri, or a widget.

A separate charity category makes it easy to see what you have given. Malii only records the amounts you log; it doesn't calculate zakat.

Tip: if you log Apple Pay with a Shortcuts automation, set its Category field to your Ramadan category for the month and switch it back after Eid.

    Review the month after Eid

Once Eid is over, open analytics and look at spending by category to see where the Ramadan money actually went, and note what you'd change next year.

Malii's monthly recap card shows how much of your budget you used and your top categories as percentages only, never amounts, so you can share how the month went without sharing what you spent.

    Frequently asked questions

When should I start planning my Ramadan budget?

About two weeks before, so you can set aside Eid and travel money from the salary before Ramadan. The start date depends on the moon sighting, so leave a few days of flexibility.

How do I budget for Eid gifts and eidiya?

Set one total, then split it across the people you give to. If you withdraw cash for eidiya, log it in your Eid category so it counts.

    Does Malii calculate zakat?

No. Malii tracks what you log in a charity or zakat category. For how much to give, check with a source you trust.

Do I need a separate budget for Ramadan?

No. The free plan includes one monthly budget, and you can track Ramadan inside it with dedicated categories.

Can I share my Ramadan spending without showing amounts?

Yes. Malii's monthly recap card shows percentages only, never amounts.
